FAQ's

Below are a list of common questions that we are asked and the answers.

If you cannot find the answer to your question, please email us

Admissions and Bookings?

How do I enquire about a place?

The easiest way to find out about the availability of spaces at one of our out of school clubs is to contact them directly.

If you know which out of school club you wish to use, then visit our Find a Service section for full details.

Otherwise you can email us on oosc@fife.gov.uk and we can help you identify the closest service for your child's school.

I work shifts, is this something you can accommodate?

We always try our hardest to accommodate shift workers because we understand that not everyone work a set working pattern so flexibility is important.

If you have a regular pattern of attendance, we will make sure we hold all the days you require.  However, if this pattern changes, we will need to look at the spaces we have available.  The more notice you can provide us about changes the easier it can be to accommodate.

If, however you do not have a regular pattern and wouldn't use the club every week this is harder to accommodate.  However, we will always try out best to offer you a space when it is available.

What are the differences between term-time, school holidays and in-service days?

During term-time families request the spaces they use on a regular basis, and these spaces are paid for regardless if they are used or not.

However, during school holidays and in-service days, we issue a booking for prior to the holidays, and these bookings are dealt with separatly.  Again, any days you book must be paid for.

Additional Support Needs

My child has an additional support need, can they access an out of school club?

Within our mainstream out of school clubs, we always do our best to support and accommodate children who have additional support needs.

Prior to any place being offered, the childcare manager will meet with you to discuss your child's needs and will likely ask for a wide range of paperwork to be completed.  A discussion will take place with the lead officer to determain whether a space can be provided which meets your child's needs.  Part of this process will involve us speaking with your child's school so we can have all the information we need to support our decision making.

Where a child has more complex and/or profound additional support needs, a place at one of our three additional support needs out of school clubs may be considered.  These are located in Dunfermline, Glenrothes and Kirkcaldy.  Within these services we have a clear criteria to help us identify suitable placements.  This is available on the pages relating to the specific services listed above.

Fees, Invoicing and How to Pay

How do I pay?

For information on our current fees and the various ways to pay, please visit our dedicated Fees and How to Pay page.

How often are invoices issued?

Invoices are generated on the last Friday of the month, which means some invoices are for four weeks and some will be for five.

Invoices are then payable in 14 days from issue.

Activities

What activities will my child be able to take part in?

Each out of school club is different due to the space and resources available, however, our highly skilled practitioners will always consult with children and young people about what they would like to access on a regular basis.

Although we will have a wide range of resources available, children do have freedom to choose to take part in a planned activity, access other resources available or mark up their own activity.

We follow the 16 play types, to make sure that children and young people can access a wide range of play opportunities.  To find out more information about Play Types, you can visit the Play Scotland website.

Food, Nutrition and Alergies?

What will my child be given for breakfast and snack?

For breakfast, children and young people will typically have access to cereal, toast and fruit, with milk or water to drink.

After school, each out of school club has a menu which is put together in consultation with the children and young people who attend.  So there can be a variety of snacks on offer.  However there should always be fruit/vegetables, milk and water.

However, since we are a registered care service that is generally based within a school, we have to follow the Healthy Eating in Schools guidance, to make sure all the foods we provide are healthy.
